Hendersonville Theatre presents Voices of Oakdale, Play Reading

Hendersonville Theatre will present a public reading of Voices of Oakdale on Thursday, September 5 at 3:00 p.m. as part of Page to Stage , the theatre’s new works development series. The play, written by members of the Hendersonville Historic Preservation Commission, will be fully staged in October during the Commission’s Oakdale Cemetery Tour. Established during Hendersonville’s period of rapid growth in the late 19th century, Oakdale Cemetery reflects the city’s early commitment to a professionally maintained public burial ground serving both white and Black residents, aligning with the national Rural Cemetery Movement. The reading is free and open to the public . A guided discussion will follow to gather audience feedback and support continued script development. The reading plus the discussion should last approximately two hours. Hendersonville Theatre is seeking community members, including students aged 16 and older , to participate as readers. No acting experience is required. A one‑ to two‑hour Zoom meeting will be scheduled during the week of the reading to prepare participants. Parking is available on the street and behind the theatre; however, attendees should be aware that the North Carolina Apple Festival may impact traffic and parking availability. For more information or to volunteer as a reader, contact Katie Winkler , Page to Stage Coordinator, at katiewinkler@hvltheatre.org .
