Parkway Playhouse presents Mean Girls JR
A High-Energy Summer Production
Parkway Playhouse Junior is bringing sass, sparkle, and sharp-witted comedy to the stage with Mean Girls JR, performing July 17–19, 2026. This youth adaptation of the Broadway hit delivers big laughs, catchy songs, and a meaningful message about friendship and staying true to yourself. Perfect for teens and families alike, this summer production promises a bold and entertaining theatrical experience.
From the Savannah to Suburban Survival
Cady Heron grew up far from the drama of American high school life—homeschooled by her parents on an African savannah. But when her family relocates to suburban Illinois, Cady is suddenly thrown into a whole new ecosystem. The hallways of North Shore High are just as wild as the jungle, filled with social hierarchies, shifting alliances, and unspoken rules.
Enter The Plastics
At the top of the popularity chain sits The Plastics: Regina George, Gretchen Wieners, and Karen Smith. Led by the confident and calculating Regina, this trio rules the school with style and intimidation. When Cady is recruited to infiltrate the group as part of a secret “Revenge Party,” she begins to learn that climbing the social ladder comes at a cost.
A Story of Identity and Friendship
As Cady dives deeper into her undercover role, the line between her real personality and her “Plastic” persona begins to blur. What starts as a clever plan to take down Regina soon spirals into unexpected consequences. Mean Girls JR explores timely themes of peer pressure, self-image, and the importance of authentic friendships, all wrapped in humor and heart.
Broadway Talent Behind the Scenes
Featuring a book by Tina Fey, music by Jeff Richmond, and lyrics by Nell Benjamin, this musical is based on the hit Paramount Pictures film. The Junior adaptation is specially designed for young performers, keeping the story engaging while making it accessible and appropriate for youth theatre.
Led by an Exceptional Creative Team
