In 1996, she founded, operated, and owned The Asheville Music School on Charlotte Street. Anne began holding guitar jam camps while students were on summer school break. In 2008, her guitar jam camps developed into what is now The Rock Academy, a year-round performance studies program. 2009 saw Anne open Asheville Music School West, which she later rebranded as Music Academy Asheville. Anne’s dream to ensure that all children would have access to a music education became the inspiration for Give to the Music, a 501©3 non-profit. It provides tuition for private music lessons, performance classes and tutoring, and instruments and musical equipment for children in need of financial assistance in 2011.
The Clarks have been involved with The Rock Academy since its inception. Steve provides his more than 33 years of financial management experience, and Dena has been on the Give to the Music Board of Directors since its inception. The strengths these partners bring will insure the school continues to grow and serve the community well into the future.
Rock Academy and Music Academy Summer Camps are the perfect place for young musicians who want the coolest of summer camp experiences to meet and play with others. Students spend one week, in a hands-on atmosphere, at our state of the art Rock Academy rehearsal space, perfecting their performance skills as individuals and most importantly, as a band.
Not only will they meet and interact with other talented young rockers, they’ll learn from a staff of professional musicians, who will share their experience and knowledge to help students learn valuable music industry-related skills.
Rock Academy teaches Year-Round Rock Band Performance Classes to students 7-17. Students learn to perform a wide variety of musical styles and songs of various genres including blues, classic rock, hard rock, punk, surf, and more.
Our music students grow into real musicians and take their skills “on the road” to play in front of live audiences at some of the top venues in the area (The Orange Peel, Gray Eagle, White Horse, Aloft Hotel, Biltmore Park, Folkmoot, Bacon-fest, and many more!). Our bands have even played on stage at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio!
Adult Rock Academy (18+) is where you will join other like-minded adults and prepare to perform live on stage. You will learn to play some of the best rock songs ever written.
