Who says there’s nothing to do in WNC?
Friday afternoon found us at New Origin Brewing Company for Beer Friday. Several friends joined us and a good time was had by all. New Origin is on Thompson Street in Asheville just outside of Biltmore Village. They have a nice selection of craft beers, all brewed right there on the premises. They also make an amazing slushie, which was enjoyed by a few in our group.
Next, it was on to Black Mountain to visit our friend Kenny Snyder at his new Tapas lounge. La Tapa Lounge opened a week or two ago and is already a favorite with many locals. Kenny has a full bar, a good selection of local beers on tap, a lot of great food on the menu, a couple of pool tables in the back, and will be hosting Karaoke on Thursdays. Drop in and say hello.
We finished out the evening with some live music at White Horse. Asheville Music Academy opened the show with two of their Rock Academy bands. These bands were tight and very good. If your kids, or even you, have ever had fantasies of being in a Rock Band, Rock Academy is the place to go. The Headliner was The RockNRoll Chorus, a large group of teens who travel the country doing covers of all genres of rock hits. The kicker is that they do the songs with no instruments other than their voices. They are able to convince you that you just heard a guitar solo, or a drum solo, and they are very very good. Find their albums wherever you get your music.
Today, it’s off to the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands, and Shakespeare in the Park this evening.
Get out and enjoy some of what our area has to offer.
