About Knuckle Busters AAMCO – A Veteran-Owned Auto Repair Shop in Knoxville

“Integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all you do.”
Those aren’t just words to live by—they’re the foundation of Knuckle Busters AAMCO, a trusted veteran-owned auto repair shop in Knoxville, TN, led by Michael Laverdure and his wife, Rachel.

A proud University of Tennessee graduate and U.S. Air Force veteran, Michael built Knuckle Busters to be different from the typical repair shop—one that values honesty, integrity, and true customer care above everything else.

From the Flightline to the Fast Lane

Michael spent eight years in active-duty service, leading aircraft maintenance teams that kept C-17s and C-5s mission-ready. While stationed at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey, near the Syrian border, his squad was known for its quick-turn “aerial pit stops.” That experience shaped his hands-on leadership style and inspired the shop’s name.

“We called ourselves Knuckle Busters back then too,” Michael says. “We fixed planes fast, worked hard, and took pride in doing things right. I wanted that same spirit in my business.”

Built on Integrity and Trust

When Michael transitioned from military service to civilian life, he carried with him the Air Force’s core values—and those became the backbone of Knuckle Busters.

“We don’t lie, cheat, or steal—and we don’t tolerate those who do,” he says. “If we break something, we own it and make it right. Integrity builds trust, and trust keeps people coming back.”

That mindset has earned Knuckle Busters a loyal customer base across Knoxville. The shop specializes in transmission repair, brake service, and complete auto diagnostics, but above all, it specializes in honesty and transparency.

A Family Decision and a Fresh Start

Family Owned Local Knoxville Transmission and Auto Repair ShopThe Laverdure family’s move to Knoxville started one Thanksgiving while visiting relatives. Watching their children play with grandparents and cousins made Michael and Rachel realize they wanted to raise their family closer to home.

With a degree in geography and years of experience leading maintenance operations, Michael searched for a business that aligned with his skills. A Knoxville-based AAMCO franchise opportunity popped up online, and it felt like the perfect fit. He attended AAMCO University in Georgia, trained in management and operations, and together he and Rachel took the leap.

They officially opened Knuckle Busters AAMCO in 2018—just one week after welcoming their third child.

A Partnership in Business and Life

Michael and Rachel are equal partners in every sense. Rachel uses her business degree from Bryan College to oversee administration and marketing, while Michael leads the shop floor with his signature customer-first approach.

“We fix cars,” Michael says, “but really, we’re in the customer service business. When you focus on people instead of parts, everything changes.”

That philosophy shapes every interaction, from greeting customers to explaining repairs in plain language. The Laverdure team invites customers to see what’s happening under the hood and ask questions—no pressure, no confusion, just straightforward answers.

A Knoxville Auto Shop You Can Count On

Auto repair can feel intimidating or untrustworthy—but not at Knuckle Busters. Michael’s goal is to make every visitor feel informed, respected, and confident in the work being done.

“Auto repair is traditionally a low-trust industry,” he says. “I want Knuckle Busters to be the opposite—to be a place people depend on.”

With a growing reputation for honesty, professionalism, and Air Force-level excellence, Knuckle Busters AAMCO continues to serve Knoxville drivers with pride, integrity, and a commitment to doing things right the first time.
