Now that warmer weather is here for the next few months, thoughts often turn tocooling off. There are many options for wet, cool fun in the mountains of WNC. Of course, there are the municipal pools, but we like to go out into nature for our relief. Here are the top 3 swimming holes in WNC. Grab your swim suits, towels, and a picnic lunch, and come join us in the mountains.
1.Sliding Rock – Located in the Pisgah National Forest, this is a popular spot for good reason. Slide down the 60-foot flat, sloping boulder and make a splash in an eight-foot deep pool, swim a few strokes to the shore, get in line, and do it all over again. Open 10:00 – 6:00 through Labor Day.
2. Skinny Dip Falls – A beautiful waterfall setting for any time of the year. A 3/4 mile hike down the trail at Looking Glass Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 417 brings you to this swimming hole and soaking spot with several waterfalls and pools.
3. Hooker Falls – Head to the DuPont Forest for this wonderful pool with a 12-foot waterfall. A delightful setting for a day of cooling off.
